Menopause
For women preparing for, or entering menopause, we provide a comprehensive review of your menstrual status, symptoms of decreased hormones, sexual function, and health risk factors. This is followed by a discussion of what you need to know about your health during this important transition in order to make appropriate health related decisions. A physical examination will be scheduled separately if needed.

Pelvic Pain
Chronic pelvic pain may be a steady pain or a pain that comes and goes, perhaps with a woman's menstrual cycle. The pain may be bad enough to interfere with normal daily activities. Pelvic pain that has lasted for at least 6 months is considered chronic.

A number of tests can help find the cause of pain. Your history and physical exam will help decide which, if any, tests to do. These may include blood tests, urologic tests or x-rays. Most of the time simple medications will help alleviate the pain. In some cases, you may need minor surgery, such as laparoscopy (a procedure in which a thin lighted tube is inserted in the abdomen so the doctor can look at your pelvic organs).

Urinary Incontinence
We offer evaluation and treatment of urinary incontinence. This may include a pelvic exam, bladder testing or cystoscopy. We also provide physical therapy via biofeedback for the pelvic floor at our Faunce Corner office in North Dartmouth.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Reconstruction
We offer full evaluation, management and surgical procedures as it pertains to pelvic organ prolapse. We offer the latest technology including noninvasive laparoscopic procedures.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
Dr. Gowell offers the latest technology in minimally invasive technologies. These include "incinsionless" tubal sterilization performed in the office, laparoscopic hysterectomy, same day surgery for urinary incontinence and "ablation" techniques for heavy menses.
